Getting food stamps for the first time:
In order to get Nutrition Assistance/food stamps in Arizona , you must meet the general Federal eligibility requirements, which include:
- You must have a Social Security Number or apply for one.
- You must be a U.S citizen, U.S. national, or have qualified alien status.
- You must register for work if between the ages of 18 and 60, which may include an employment training program. (Some college students may be eligible as well.)
Before you apply for Nutrition Assistance/food stamps in Arizona, you may want to use the online Prescreener at http://arizonaselfhelp.org/prescreen/. If you qualify, or if you’re still not sure, you can apply for food stamps online at https://www.healthearizonaplus.gov. (After you click through, choose “Get Started” then look for “Apply for Public Programs” to find the online Nutrition Assistance application.)
You can also apply for Nutrition Assistance/food stamps in person or by fax. You can download and print an application at https://des.az.gov/sites/default/files/media/FA-001_08-15_English%5B1%5D.pdf and fax it or bring it to your local Family Assistance Administration Office. (See https://eol.azdes.gov/ to find your local office. You can also get an application at your local office if you can’t print one out online.)
After you apply, you will be contacted for an eligibility interview in order to ensure that you qualify for benefits.
